BEIRUT — Services from cell phone operator Alfa are back after a "forced outage" due to malfunctions in state-run provider Ogero's network, Alfa said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Ogero employees began an open-ended strike last week to demand better working conditions as the country faces economic collapse. The strike has led to a series of breakdowns in internet and telephone networks across Lebanon.

According to local media, the malfunctions are due to a depletion of fuel at the Sin al-Fil central telecoms station. The optical fibers of operators Alfa and Touch — who supply internet to all of Lebanon — run through Sin al-Fil, which Ogero employees recently stopped supplying with fuel.

Tuesday's telecom failures follow other outages reported last week across the country, which also affected the operator Touch. Following a meeting with the union of Ogero employees, the outgoing Minister of Telecommunications, Johnny Corm, indicated last Thursday that there would be no solutions "before next week." Talks between the different parties are underway.
