BEIRUT — An armed gang reportedly killed a money exchanger and injured another person while trying to rob them Monday night on a road between the villages of Makneh and Younine in the Bekaa Valley, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent in the area.

The gang first chased three money exchangers in a car who were heading from Chtaura to the village of Arsal, before opening fire on them, our correspondent reported. One of the money exchangers, whose initials were given as M.R., was hit in the head and died from his injuries, while another man, H.R., was wounded in his leg. They were transferred to a hospital in the area. The third individual, N.R., reportedly escaped without suffering any injury. The Lebanese Army deployed to the scene to investigate the incident and pursued the suspects, whose car was reportedly found burnt in Makneh.

The security situation in Lebanon has deteriorated, including in the Bekaa Valley, where weapons have circulated as the state struggles amid an unprecedented economic crisis.
