BEIRUT — The head of the state-owned telecommunications company Ogero, Imad Kreidieh, on Saturday said that he "does not agree" with the current strike of his workers and "stopping people's functions , even if their [the workers'] demands are righteous."

Employees of the state-owned telecommunication company Ogero began an open-ended strike on Tuesday to demand better wages.

Ogero's internet services appeared to have returned on Thursday after the many parts of the country experienced internet outages following the start of the employees' strike.

During an interview with the local television channel, Al-Jadeed, Kreidieh said that his company has paid LL150 billion to foreign companies for internet subscriptions, which according to him will cover internet services until Jan. 31, 2023. "Now the only problem we have is the increase of the workers' salaries," he added.

The head of Ogero also said that in spite of their strike, Ogero employees resupplied the telecommunication centers, which rely on electricity to function, with diesel so that they could continue to power generators during the long hours of state power outages.

On Thursday, caretaker Telecommunications Minister Johnny Corm said  in a press conference that there would be no solution to the strike of Ogero employees "before next week," adding that he would make the necessary efforts to improve the working conditions of these employees who have stopped their activities since Tuesday.
