Internet and telephone outages cause disruption in Koura

BEIRUT — Telephone and internet outages have been reported since Friday evening in several villages in Koura, North Lebanon. The outages have disrupted work in the region and caused distress among residents.

These malfunctions come in addition to others reported earlier this week throughout the country, while employees of the state-owned telecommunications company Ogero have been on an open-ended strike since Tuesday to demand improvement in their pay and working conditions.

After a meeting with the syndicate of Ogero employees, Lebanon's caretaker Telecommunications Minister Johnny Corm indicated Thursday that there would be no solutions "before next week," claiming however to be undertaking the necessary efforts to improve the working conditions of the employees.

The telecoms disruptions  have impacted the work of several sectors, including the health sector. Emergency lines in several hospitals were no longer operational.

The networks of cell phone operators Alfa and Touch have also been also affected by the outages.
