Transport allowances for private sector raised amid fluctuating fuel costs

BEIRUT — Transport allowances in the private sector were raised from LL65,000 to LL95,000, after a decree was signed Friday by President Michel Aoun, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the caretaker Labor Minister Mustafa Bayram.
Here’s what we know:
• The Mikati government had approved the LL95,000 increase on July 18, but since then, fuel prices have had severe fluctuations, with a high of LL605,000 for 95-octane gasoline on July 21 and a low on Friday, at LL552,000.
• In one year, the price of 20 liters of 95-octane gasoline has increased by 1,489 percent, according to the Lebanese research center Information International.
