BEIRUT — A fire interrupted the electricity supply on Tuesday in the town of Orman, located on the highway leading to Deir Ammar, North Lebanon, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• A grass fire engulfed electricity cables causing electricity cuts in the town prompting residents to call on state electric utility Electricité du Liban and the relevant authorities to restore power.
• The power cuts come amid severe electricity rationing as Lebanon faces its third year of economic crisis. Since July, EDL has been relying alternatively on the Deir Ammar and Zahrani (South Lebanon) power plants, which have repeatedly shut down due to fuel shortages caused by difficulties in financing their importation.
