BEIRUT — Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib met with Ukrainian Ambassador Ihor Ostach, who informed him that Ukraine has established a port to continue delivering wheat to Lebanon due to Lebanon's stance on the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Here’s what we know:
• Ostach stated this is part of Ukraine’s assistance to Lebanon. Lebanon had condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine and called on Moscow to halt its military operations when the war began in February, in a statement that “surprised” Russia.
• The head of the American Task Force for Lebanon had discussed on Monday with Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati the matter of wheat imports and “the importance of pressuring Russia so that wheat cargoes can leave Ukrainian ports,” the prime minister’s Twitter account stated.
