BEIRUT — Foreign Affairs Minister Abdallah Bou Habib on Thursday accompanied commander-in-chief of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, Gen. Aroldo Lazaro, on a flight over the Lebanese-Israeli border, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• According to the NNA, the two discussed the demarcation of Lebanon's maritime border with Israel. Earlier this month, Lebanese-Israeli tensions escalated after the latter deployed a production, storage and offloading vessel to the disputed Karish offshore gas field.
• At UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura in South Lebanon, Bou Habib and Lazaro discussed resolution 1701, which established the cessation of hostilities following the July 2006 war. Bou Habib also hailed UNIFIL's role in preserving peace.
• The Lebanese Army in South Lebanon collaborates with UNIFIL, which was established in 1978 by the UN Security Council to enforce peace between the two countries.
