BEIRUT — The Energy Ministry on Friday asked private generator owners to provide at least 16 hours of electricity per day “particularly after improving the fixed amount of the pricing.”

Here’s what we know:

    • In a statement, the Energy Ministry also asked generator owners to price their [three-phased] provision of electricity the same as [one-phased] provision.

    • The Energy Ministry also asked the Economy Ministry to “monitor and supervise the sector in order to protect the citizens.”

    • Fuel prices have been substantially increasing in recent weeks for a variety of reasons, including the depreciation of the Lebanese Lira as opposed to the dollar on the parallel market. Prices of 20 liters of diesel fuel, which is used to power private generators, increased by LL45,000 today, and now costs LL619,000.
