Army arrests man accused of shooting in the air during Sarafand incident on Saturday

BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army announced on Wednesday that it arrested a man accused of having fired bullets into the air on Saturday in the locality of Sarafand, when a group of armed individuals attacked opposition parliamentary elections candidates who attempted to present their list and electoral program.

Here’s what we know:

    • “An intelligence patrol arrested A.Kh., who had fired in the air on April 17 in Sarafand when several local residents objected to the announcement of a voters list,” the statement issued by the army said.

    • The arrest took place on Tuesday after a group of activists called “The pioneers of justice” filed a request to open a judicial investigation before the Court of Cassation.

    • Media outlets and witnesses of the incident reported that the attackers are supporters of the Amal Movement led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. Amal later denied any involvement in the incident.
