BEIRUT — The Aug. 4, 2020 Beirut port explosion claimed another victim Tuesday with the passing of Rami Fawaz, more than a year and a half after the tragedy had left more than 200 dead and 6,500 injured. Muhieddine Ladkani, a member of the victim’s families group, confirmed his death to L’Orient Today.
Here’s what we know:
• Rami Fawaz, engineer and father of two, a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old, died Tuesday from injuries sustained from the Beirut port blast.
• Glass shards struck Fawaz’s head when a massive cache of ammonium nitrate exploded. He was operated on that night, but died 623 days later at the age of 48.
• Fawaz’s Facebook profile picture includes symbols of solidarity with the Beirut blast victims.
• Last March two people critically injured in the blast, Rita Antoun Hardini and Julia Audi, passed away within 48 hours off one another. There is no conclusive tally of casualty numbers at this time.
