BEIRUT — Some 105 Lebanese students pursuing university degrees in Ukraine arrived in Beirut late Sunday night from Warsaw, the capital of Poland, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• The secretary-general of the Higher Relief Commission, Maj. Gen. Mohamed Khair, had traveled to Warsaw to supervise all procedures in coordination with the Lebanese Embassy in Poland before returning aboard the same flight as the students.
• Parents of Lebanese students from regions across the country had gathered since early evening at the Beirut airport to meet their children.
• Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has caused hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries to military personnel and civilians since it began on Feb. 24. Lebanese authorities initially struggled to evacuate Lebanese citizens from Ukraine.
