BEIRUT — Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea announced on Tuesday the candidacy of MP Ziad Hawat in the constituency of Jbeil-Kesrouan in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Here’s what we know:

    • “The LF Executive Committee decided to support Ziad Hawat’s candidacy for one of the Maronite seats in Jbeil District,” Geagea said at a press conference. “With him, we can succeed in turning your voices into a force for change and your anger into rescue projects,” he added.

    • Geagea went on to say that the LF “supported Ziad Hawat’s candidacy in 2018 because he is dynamic, still works and does not rest, he is successful, competent and had one of the best experiences in local management.” Ziad Hawat had been the president of the municipality of Jbeil between years 2010 and 2017.

    • There are eight seats to be filled in Jbeil-Kesrouan: seven Maronite and one Shiite.

    • The Maronite leader had already announced candidates in several districts, including Chawki Daccache in Kesrouan; former MP Fady Karam in Koura; MP Pierre Bou Assi in Baabda; lawyer Elias Stephan and MP George Okais in Zahle; Sethrida Geagea, his wife, and MP Joseph Isaac in Maronite seats in Bcharre; and former minister Melhem Riachi and Razi el-Hajj in Metn.
