BEIRUT — In a sign of the country’s almost total reliance on private diesel generators, and the precarity of diesel supplies, the state radio station stopped broadcasting Sunday.
Here’s what we know:
• Radio Liban journalist Maher Al-Chawa posted on his Facebook profile that Radio Liban stopped broadcasting due to the exhaustion of diesel from the generators that feed the Ministry of Information, and that the station’s UPS had also run out. “Worst management witnessed by radio,” he added as a hashtag.
• Chawa’s post was corroborated by Al-Akhbar, while calls to the station by L’Orient Today went unanswered and the station could not be heard on its designated FM frequencies as of the time of writing.
