BEIRUT — A prosecutorial judge in the Bekaa has issued an arrest warrant against a cleric accused of rape of a minor at a school for teaching the Quran holy book.

Here’s what we know:

    • On Friday, Judge Nadia Akl, one of the advocate generals of the Bekaa Appellate Court, ruled for the issuing of an arrest warrant for the cleric, who resides in the western Bekaa town of Manara, L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the region reported.

    • The warrant was issued after an investigation conducted at a Rashaya police station after the victim and her father lodged a complaint with authorities.

    • The cleric, who has not been named, tried to circumvent his crime by marrying the victim on Dec. 4, after which he divorced her, the correspondent added.
