BEIRUT — Residents of Jub Jennin, in West Bekaa, demonstrated Monday morning against the severe rationing of electricity in front of several institutions in the locality, denouncing the "broken promises" of officials on this issue, L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the area reports.

Here’s what we know:

    • Protesters staged sit-ins in front of the city's serail, the local headquarters of telephone operator Ogero, several electrical installations and banks, criticizing that they have been without power "for three years" due to the lack of infrastructure connecting the locality to the national grid.

    • The Lebanese Army was deployed to prevent escalation as protestors prevented employees from entering their offices, according to the state-run National News Agency.

    • The management of the electricity network in Lebanon, which has struggled to provide consistent power for decades, has worsened further since the financial crisis hit the country in 2019. The state does not have sufficient foreign currency to import the fuel necessary to supply its power plants, and thus only provides a few hours of electricity per day.
