BEIRUT – Health Minister Firass Abiad on Saturday said that over 20,000 people received COVID-19 vaccine jabs during the vaccination marathon held across Lebanon, adding that the situation at hospitals in Lebanon is stable amid the wave of coronavirus cases.
Here’s what we know:
• “Over 20,000 individuals, including teachers and students, received their vaccine today,” the health minister tweeted, adding that “they are offered to everyone, including refugees and foreign migrant workers.”
• He also tweeted that while the wave of Omicron cased in Lebanon has been “turning into a tsunami,” the situation at hospitals and intensive care units (ICUs) remains stable. “Capacity is being boosted,” Abiad wrote.
• On Dec. 31, Abiad said any decision to impose a lockdown would be based on hospitals’ capacities and whether they are becoming overwhelmed.
• Lebanon in the past week has registered new daily records for COVID-19 cases. ICU capacity was at 75.97 percent, according to the World Health Organization’s updated figures as of Thursday.
