Ministries announce weekend Pfizer vaccine marathon for anyone aged 21 or above

BEIRUT — The Education Ministry and the Health Ministry on Friday announced in a joint statement that a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine marathon will take place over the weekend for residents aged 21 and above.

Here’s what we know:

    • The statement said that the marathon will take place on Saturday and Sunday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. with the goal of “guaranteeing the vaccination of the education sector to provide a safe resuming of studies.”

    • On Dec.1, the ministerial committee for COVID-19 restrictions headed by the health minister decided to extend the winter vacation for students of schools and universities from Dec. 16 to Jan. 10 in order to give schools more time to vaccinate students. Originally the vacation was scheduled for Dec. 22 to Jan. 7.

    • On Friday, Lebanon recorded a new daily record of 7,974 new COVID-19 cases; however, the number of people with the illness in intensive care units remained unchanged from Thursday at 347.
