BEIRUT — An unidentified group stole electrical wires from an Electricité du Liban distribution station Monday in the Al Borj neighborhood located in the Minyeh-Dinnieh district in North Lebanon, causing power cuts in the area, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Here’s what we know:

    • Residents of the area appealed to EDL, demanding that the thieves be found and electricity be restored to their homes.

    • Theft of electrical wires has become common in recent months due to their high resale value, as the country's local currency continues to lose value against the US dollar and people struggle to meet basic needs, such as fuel, health care and food, as Lebanon suffers from an unprecedented economic crisis.
