UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is expected to arrive in Lebanon on Sunday for a four-day official visit, L'Orient Today's UN correspondent Sylviane Zehil reports.
With Lebanon mired in an economic crisis, Guterres' visit comes as a mark of solidarity during which the secretary-general will reaffirm the UN's support for the country and its people.
During his visit, Guterres will meet with President Michel Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Najib Mikati, as well as a number of religious leaders and representatives of civil society. He will also pay tribute to the victims of the Beirut port explosion and make field visits to interact with those affected by the many crises facing the country.
Finally, the secretary-general will travel to southern Lebanon to visit the soldiers of UNIFIL, the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon, and inspect parts of the Blue Line separating Lebanon from Israel before leaving the country on Wednesday.
