BEIRUT — Hamas on Monday revised the death toll to three in Sunday’s attack on a funeral for a Hamas member in the Burj al-Shemali Palestinian refugee camp in Sur, according to updated information from the group.
Here’s what we know:
• Last night Hamas reported that four of its members were killed when individuals, allegedly linked to the rival Fatah movement, opened fire on a funeral for a Hamas official killed in Friday night’s explosion in the camp, setting off clashes between the two sides.
• Hamas has now clarified that the correct death toll is three.
• The deceased are Mohammad Walid Taha, Hussein Mohammad al-Ahmad and Omar Mohammad Sahli.
• Meanwhile, the Lebanese Army announced Sunday evening that Palestinian security forces in nearby al-Bass camp transferred a suspected perpetrator of the shootings to its custody.
• Questions continue to surround Friday’s events. Early reports indicated that the explosion took place at an ammunition storehouse, but Hamas has said the explosion was the result of faulty electrical wiring setting off oxygen canisters.
