Civil Defense warns of dangers of swimming due to high waves, strong sea currents

BEIRUT — The Civil Defense warned on Sunday of the current dangers of swimming along the coast across Lebanon due to high waves and strong sea currents.

"The General Directorate of Civil Defense is warning citizens and residents of the dangers of swimming along the Lebanese coast ... due to high waves and strong sea currents, which increase the risk of drowning and endanger their lives," reads the statement.

The Directorate of Environment and Meteorology at the Lebanese Civil Aviation Authority warned on Saturday of strong wind speeds and rough sea conditions expected in the coming days. It added that "moderately warm summer weather dominates Lebanon over the coming days "due to the influence of a weak and limited-activity low-pressure system centered southwest of Turkey, with some instability until Wednesday, when conditions stabilize and temperatures return to rise on Thursday."
