Zamir says Israeli troops will 'advance deeper' into south Lebanon if necessary

Israeli army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir told Israeli officers that troops would "advance, if necessary, deeper into South Lebanon and reach other areas," according to a post by the Israeli military on its Hebrew-language X account.

"In Lebanon, we have taken control of areas and are clearing them of terrorist infrastructure. These are areas from which the Hezbollah terrorist organization had deployed, threatened and carried out operations against communities in northern Israel," he said.

"We are operating according to a clear security doctrine: we are deployed in forward defensive positions, deep inside enemy territory, on every front from which a direct threat to our communities and Israeli citizens emerges," Zamir said. "We will not withdraw from the territory we have captured until lasting security is guaranteed," he added.

"The campaign across all fronts is not yet over, and you must be prepared for it to continue. We are ready for any development and prepared to deal with a wide range of scenarios," he said, according to remarks reported by The Times of Israel.
