Iran says four tankers ‘stopped’ in Strait of Hormuz, two hit mines

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said two oil tankers ‘’exploded and caught fire’’ while crossing a mined area south of the Strait of Hormuz, a claim denied by the United States. It also said four other ships were ‘’stopped’’ in a missile and drone operation.

’’Two oil tankers, attempting to cross the minefield south of the Strait of Hormuz after being misled by U.S. intelligence services, exploded and caught fire,’’ the Guard said, according to IRNA on Telegram, without specifying the vessels’ nationalities or whether there were casualties.

’’To protect their assets and, above all, their lives, sailors must not be misled into entering this minefield,’’ it added.

U.S. Central Command denied the claim.

’’Like most claims by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, this is false,’’ it wrote on X, without providing further details.

The Guard later said ‘’four violating ships, supported by the American terrorist army, attempted to cross the Strait of Hormuz and were stopped on the spot during a combined missile and drone operation.’’
