BEIRUT — U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday raised what he called “the Lebanese question” during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron upon arriving in Evian for the G7 summit.
He was responding to a question about the situation in Lebanon and how the Hezbollah–Israel front fits into the agreement he has just concluded with Iran to end the war in the Middle East.
“We’re going to see if we can straight out out the Lebanon thing, it's seems to never end. It’s a mini-version of what we’ve been doing. It should not be tough."
"We'll have to have a little talk with them [Hezbollah]" Trump added.
The U.S.–Iran agreement, reached Monday to end a war ongoing since February 28, is in principle meant to halt fighting across all fronts, including Lebanon.
However, cease-fire violations continued throughout the day in southern Lebanon. Israel has already indicated it is not bound by the deal, from which it was excluded despite having launched the war against Iran alongside the United States.
