Aragchi warns: Any attack on Beirut would trigger a full resumption of the war

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned against any attack on Beirut, saying it would lead to a major escalation.

“Any attack on Beirut will have serious consequences and will lead to the full resumption of the war,” he said, adding that Iran and its armed forces remain on alert. “If Israeli aggression against Beirut continues, our armed forces are fully prepared to resume the war and target objectives inside Israel,” he added.

“We have made it clear to all concerned parties that an attack on Beirut constitutes blatant aggression and that we will not remain silent,” Araghchi continued. He added that when Israel threatened to strike Beirut’s southern suburbs, “we adopted a firm position and the Iranian armed forces were at maximum readiness to respond appropriately.”

The Iranian foreign minister also argued that “the fate of the war between Iran and the Zionist Americans cannot be separated from the struggle in Lebanon,” saying that “the two fronts have been linked since the first day.” He said he had “asked the Pakistani prime minister to ensure that Lebanon is explicitly included in the clause concerning an end to the war on all fronts.”

“Our position is completely clear: the end of the war and a cease-fire must be achieved simultaneously on all fronts of the resistance, including in Lebanon,” he added.

Araghchi also said that contacts with Washington were continuing, although no concrete progress had been made.

“A return to the negotiating table is contingent upon guarantees of the Iranian people's rights, an end to the war in Lebanon and a halt to tensions in the region,” he said.

Araghchi described Lebanon as “a brotherly and friendly country,” asserting that “Iran has never sought to interfere in Lebanon’s internal politics.” He also stressed that “Hezbollah is an integral part of Lebanon’s political structure.”

Finally, the minister said the issue concerning Iran’s ambassador to Beirut should be resolved soon, adding that Tehran remains confident in “the wisdom of Lebanese officials.”

‘The affirmation of a Lebanese state requires the disarmament of Hezbollah,’ Lecornu says

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said Wednesday during a parliamentary session at the National Assembly devoted to the military programming law:

“There are no solutions without the affirmation of a Lebanese state, and this affirmation obviously requires the disarmament of Hezbollah … There is a security vacuum that we must fill quickly in the current diplomatic moment, which must involve support for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF),” he said.

“The funding approved in this military programming law makes it possible to replace older French equipment in order to donate military material to the LAF.”

On the issue of UNIFIL, whose mandate expires at the end of 2026, Lecornu said France had “put on the table an offer of military means that would make it possible to envisage a new mandate and avoid this security vacuum. There are scenarios of around 2,000 troops, 3,000, or 5,500. France will act as a coordinator with European partners.”

Tibnin hospital rejects Israeli army's allegations

Without mentioning Hezbollah, the administration of Tibnin Public Hospital denied Israeli army allegations that the facility had been taken over “by political parties” or was being used “for non-medical purposes,” describing the claims as “completely false.”

In a statement, the hospital said the allegations were “part of attempts to distort the facts and spread fear among employees and citizens in order to discourage them from coming to the hospital.”

The administration stressed that the facility is “an official public institution under the authority of the Lebanese state, founded in 1960,” and that it “continues to carry out its humanitarian and national mission without discrimination.”

It added that the hospital currently operates with “around 70 employees” and “10 doctors,” while “seven patients are currently receiving treatment.”

Hezbollah has ‘taken control’ of Tibnin public hospital, Israeli army claims

The Israeli army claimed that Hezbollah used the public hospital in the southern Lebanese village of Tibnin and had “transferred its wounded fighters” there.

“Intelligence information indicates that the Hezbollah terrorist organization took control of Tibnin Public Hospital during the war,” the army said in a statement, adding that wounded Hezbollah members were treated there before being transferred to the Rasul al-Aazam Hospital in Beirut's southern suburbs.

The Israeli military accused Hezbollah of “exploiting Lebanese medical and government infrastructure for military purposes,” a practice it said it had repeatedly denounced in the past.

“People of Lebanon, do not be deceived: Hezbollah's takeover of hospitals and use of medical infrastructure puts your lives at risk,” the statement said. “And to Hezbollah fighters who continue to hide beneath patients' beds in civilian hospitals of the Lebanese state: if you think you are safe there, know that you are not.”

Lebanese Health Ministry rejects Israeli army's claims that Tibnin hospital is controlled by Hezbollah

Lebanon's Health Ministry rejected Israeli army allegations concerning the public hospital in Tibnin, describing them as “fabrications and false claims” and warning that they amount to a “serious threat” against a civilian facility.

In a statement, the ministry said the hospital is “the only hospital in the Bint Jbeil district providing medical and health services” in an area exposed to ongoing Israeli strikes.

It added that a center operated by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Lebanese Red Cross is located within the hospital, while the Lebanese Army maintains a permanent position at its entrance and has transferred its clinic there.

The ministry warned against any attack on the facility, holding Israel “fully responsible for any harm caused” and calling on media outlets to visit the site.

“The people present are exclusively medical, nursing and administrative staff, as well as patients,” it said, denouncing what it described as a further step “in the series of attacks against health infrastructure.”

‘We must disarm Hezbollah and demilitarize Lebanon,’ Netanyahu says on U.S. television

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he shares with Donald Trump the goal of “disarming Hezbollah and demilitarizing Lebanon,” in an interview with the U.S. network CNBC.

He also claimed that “many of those attacking Israel are in Beirut,” as Tel Aviv threatens to resume strikes on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital if Hezbollah continues firing toward northern Israel.

Asked about the risk of a new regional escalation, Netanyahu said that the war waged by Israel and the United States against Iran “is not over,” while arguing that the Islamic Republic had been “weakened.”

He added that he speaks with the U.S. president “every two days” and said Israeli and American forces were prepared to act again against Iran if necessary.

He added that they sometimes have “tactical disagreements,” they “agree on the main things.”
