Hezbollah accuses authorities of 'weakness' towards Israel, criticizes ongoing Washington negotiations

Regarding the direct negotiations conducted by the Lebanese authorities with Israel, while "the enemy continues its crimes and attempts to extend its occupation of our territory to the south," the parliamentary bloc believes that these negotiations allow Israel "to exploit the negotiations to its advantage."
It accused the government of making numerous "concessions" without obtaining "even a ceasefire," which, according to the bloc, "exacerbates internal divisions."
The bloc thus reiterated its call to the authorities to "abandon this shameful policy" and to "return to the fundamental principles of the Constitution and the National Pact" in order to strengthen national unity and consensus.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Rajji affirmed that the Holy See and Italy's relationship is “shown by the Holy Father toward Lebanon’s suffering carries major political, moral, and humanitarian significance.”
The minister also stressed the importance of the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, allowing displaced residents to return to their homes, and addressing the issue of prisoners.
Asked about the weapons of Hezbollah, Rajji stressed that “the Lebanese people want to live in a normal sovereign state where the monopoly on military force belongs exclusively to the state and its legitimate institutions.” He emphasized that this is “not a demand to satisfy Israel or the international community, but rather a sovereign national matter.” He also noted that the Lebanese government had called on Hezbollah to disarm and considered its military actions outside state legitimacy.
Regarding linking Hezbollah’s file to the United States–Iran talks, Rajji confirmed that “the Lebanese government has decided to completely separate the two tracks,” rejecting the idea that “any other party should negotiate on behalf of Lebanon.” He added: “We are a sovereign and independent state.”

Ahead of direct talks with Lebanon in Washington, Israel’s ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter said in an interview with Israeli media outlet Walla that there are “two possible paths” with Lebanon.
“A cease-fire is being prepared, but we will protect our soldiers and citizens under all circumstances, and we will in no case allow Hezbollah to rearm,” he said.
He added that despite Lebanese government statements about dismantling Hezbollah in the south, the reality on the ground is different.
“Since the start of the operation, we have discovered 8,000 rockets, missiles and weapons in southern Lebanon,” he claimed.
He said Israel wants to see how the Lebanese government strengthens the Lebanese army and takes concrete action. “We will jointly define a zone and plan its dismantlement with them, and then continue our actions,” he added.
“We are ready to follow two paths. The first is to negotiate full peace, as if Hezbollah did not exist: borders, embassies, visas, tourism, everything. Such an agreement could be reached within months. But it would be conditioned on the success of the second path: dismantling Hezbollah.”
He also said he told U.S. President Donald Trump that Israel considers it essential to permanently eliminate the nuclear and ballistic threats, and that any agreement must include ending support for armed proxy groups.

“The negotiations begin today at 9 a.m. Washington time. If there is no real cease-fire, it means everything will collapse,” Berri told the newspaper al-Diyar.
“We accept nothing less than the withdrawal of the Israeli army, followed by reconstruction, the deployment of the Lebanese Army, and the return of displaced residents,” he added.
Asked about a possible meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Joseph Aoun, Berri said that, according to his information, this issue “is not under consideration by Mr. Aoun.”
