SOUTH LEBANON — The Israeli invading troops continue to advance rapidly into Bint Jbeil and have encircled the center of the large town in southern Lebanon, following days of fierce fighting with Hezbollah.

According to information from our regional correspondent, clashes have been taking place since Tuesday around the stadium, which the Israeli army announced it destroyed via released images of the bombed stadium. Fighting is also ongoing near the Serail school, the municipality, the police station and the town’s reservoir. Israeli forces have not yet managed to reach the city centre, which remains completely surrounded.

Large parts of the town, just a few kilometers from the border, have been destroyed during the advance, in addition to airstrikes. Satellite images showing the extent of the destruction, including that of the city’s historic mosque, have been circulating online since Tuesday.

Since Tuesday evening, Hezbollah — whose fighters have either been trapped in the center or have been killed or captured, according to Israel— said it launched a salvo of rockets at Israeli vehicles and soldiers on the northern outskirts of the city.

On Tuesday, the Israeli army said its Givati Brigade had captured three Hezbollah members in Bint Jbeil, including one belonging to the elite al-Radwan unit. The media also published a photo showing a soldier, presented as the commander of the brigade, posing in front of a memorial to the "martyrs of Bint Jbeil," a wall displaying photos of people presumed to be Hezbollah fighters, alongside a logo of the movement. According to our correspondent, however, the monument is not located in the city's center but rather on its outskirts.

On Monday, the Israeli army said it had taken control of the stadium where former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah gave his victory speech after Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000.
