He added that the ultimatum set before the United States bombed Iranian power plants and the country's bridges was final.
“They negotiated in good faith. We had a total diet change. Before that, they were moody people; now they are much more reasonable. The first regime was overthrown, the second too, and now the third group of people we are dealing with are not as radicalized, and they are much more intelligent,” he further noted.
“We are devastating the country. They will have no bridges or power stations. They will have nothing. I won't go any further, because there are other things that are worse than that too,” he said, adding: “We could leave now, but we can't let lunatics have nuclear weapons."
The U.S. president also declared that Iran's oil reserves were "there for the taking" and that Tehran "couldn't do anything about it". “Unfortunately, the American people would like to see us come home. If it were up to me, I would take the oil, I would keep it, I would make a lot of money,” he added.
Trump, who planned a press conference for 8 p.m., then clarified that he would also “take care of the Iranian people, much better than they have been taken care of so far.”

Iran won't reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a "temporary cease-fire," a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Monday, adding that Tehran views Washington as lacking the readiness for a permanent cease-fire.
The official confirmed Iran had received Pakistan's proposal for an immediate cease-fire and was reviewing it, adding that Tehran does not accept being pressured to accept deadlines and make a decision.
Iran, US receive plan to end hostilities, immediate cease-fire; source says
Iran and the United States have received a plan to end hostilities that could come into effect on Monday and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a source aware of the proposals told Reuters on Monday.
A framework to end hostilities has been put together by Pakistan and exchanged with Iran and the U.S. overnight, the source said.
The source told Reuters Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, has been in contact "all night long" with U.S. Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi.
Under the proposal, a cease-fire would take effect immediately, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, with 15–20 days to finalize a broader settlement.
The deal, tentatively dubbed the "Islamabad Accord," would include a regional framework for the strait, with final in-person talks in Islamabad.

U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to rain "hell" on Tehran if it did not make a deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz by his Tuesday deadline, as he praised U.S. special forces who rescued an American airman in a high-risk mission from inside Iran.
The airman, the weapons officer of an F-15 jet shot down on Friday, was wounded but "will be just fine," Trump said in a message on X. The jet's pilot was rescued earlier.
Trump added he will hold a press conference at 5 p.m. GMT.
"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran," he said. "There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP."

US, Iran, and mediators make push for 45-day cease-fire, Axios reports
The U.S., Iran, and a group of regional mediators are discussing the terms for a potential 45-day cease-fire that could lead to a permanent end to the war, Axios reported on Sunday, citing four U.S., Israeli, and regional sources with knowledge of the talks.
Reuters could not immediately verify the report. The White House and the U.S. State Department did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.
The mediators are discussing the terms of a two-phased deal, the report said, adding that the first phase would be a potential 45-day cease-fire during which a permanent end to the war would be negotiated.
The second phase would be an agreement on ending the war, the report said. The cease-fire could be extended if additional time was required for talks.
