UAE orders closure of Iranian-linked hospital in Dubai
The United Arab Emirates has ordered the closure of a hospital linked to the Iranian state in Dubai, three employees told AFP, as ties between the two neighbors deteriorate amid Tehran’s air campaign against Gulf states.
Since the United States and Israel began striking Iran on Feb. 28, Tehran has launched waves of missiles and drones at Gulf countries, with more than 2,000 attacks on the UAE alone. The strikes have strained relations, prompting Abu Dhabi to recall its ambassador to Iran and close its diplomatic mission. Entities linked to Iran, including schools, have also been shut down despite longstanding economic and community ties.
“The government asked all of us to leave,” one hospital employee told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters. “The hospital administration told us it was because of Iran’s attacks on the UAE,” the employee added.
The Iranian hospital, which employs more than 700 people, is run by the Iranian Red Crescent Society. It is one of the oldest health care facilities in the UAE.
An Emirati official told AFP that “certain institutions directly linked to the Iranian regime and the Revolutionary Guards will be closed as part of targeted measures” after being found in violation of UAE laws. “These measures are administrative in nature and will be implemented in an orderly manner to ensure continuity of essential services,” the official added.
At least three staff members said they were informed of the decision during a meeting last Saturday and were asked to leave the premises in the coming days.
“We did not expect this to happen so quickly,” a doctor told AFP. “There were officials and security personnel inside the complex when I arrived at work Tuesday.” Patients have been transferred to other facilities in Dubai, employees said, while the hospital’s website has been taken offline.
At least four Iranian schools have also been closed in Dubai, according to members of the Iranian community. Signage for the Towheed Iranian School in Dubai has been removed, and a security guard at the site told AFP the school was closed. The Iranian Club in Dubai, also linked to Tehran, said it had suspended activities in a statement on Instagram Monday, citing “current circumstances.”
Some hospital staff said they fear their lives will be upended as the conflict pits their home country against their host country. “We came here to escape the situation in our country,” said a doctor who has worked at the hospital for more than 10 years. “It is heartbreaking that our lives are being affected in this way,” they said.

Accordingly, the Authority resumed restoration work today, reaffirming the continued operation of public facilities and institutions, and ensuring the continuity of government functions despite exceptional circumstances and the expansion of attacks,” the statement said.
“The Authority also confirms that its facilities continue to operate around the clock, and it continues to utilize the Litani River for hydroelectric power generation, with current production exceeding 70 megawatts. This contributes to feeding the public grid and providing a minimum level of stability in electricity supply for vital facilities and citizens,” the Authority concluded.
