Latest developments in south Lebanon, according to our correspondent

According to our correspondent in southern Lebanon, Israeli aircraft carried out a strike on Hosh, in the Sour district, almost simultaneously with other raids on Ansarieh (Saida district), Taybeh (Marjayoun district), and Robb Thalathin (Marjayoun district). Initial reports indicate injuries in Hosh.

Israeli artillery shelled Arnoun and Yohmor al-Shaqif (Nabatieh district), while a tank fired on Zawatar Sharqieh from al-Awayda Hill, following artillery fire between Zawtar and Mayfadoun.

The town of Bint Jbeil was also targeted again. The strike on Qalawieh earlier in the evening killed at least four people, while the one on Zawtar Sharqieh killed one person and injured another.

Iran accuses U.N. of 'turning blind eye' after deaths of four of its diplomats in Lebanon

The Iranian mission to the U.N. accused Israel on Tuesday of having "assassinated" four of its diplomats stationed in Lebanon during a strike on Sunday against a hotel in Beirut.

The Israeli army claimed responsibility for the attack, which targeted the Ramada hotel, located in a tourist district of Beirut on the seafront, at night.

"The targeted killing of four Iranian diplomats while they were carrying out their duties as official representatives of a sovereign Member State in the territory of another sovereign State constitutes a grave act of terrorism and a serious violation of international law," the Iranian mission wrote in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres.

The letter specifies the names and positions of the diplomats in question: Majid Hassani Kondsar (Second Secretary of the Iranian Embassy in Lebanon), Alireza Bi-Azar (Third Secretary), Hossein Ahmadlou (Attaché), and Ahmad Rasouli (Secretary-General).

During a press briefing at U.N. headquarters in New York, Iranian representative Amir Saeid Iravani accused the Security Council of "turning a blind eye" to what he called a "war crime."

The U.S. Navy has not yet escorted any ships through the Strait of Hormuz, the White House clarified Tuesday, after a member of Donald Trump's cabinet stated the opposite, triggering significant market movements.

"I can confirm that the U.S. Navy has not escorted any oil tankers or any other vessels at this time" through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway for global oil trade, said spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt at a press conference.

Minutes earlier, Energy Secretary Chris Wright had posted and then deleted a message announcing that a first transit had been made possible thanks to U.S. military support. This will "ensure that oil continues to flow into global markets," Wright stated in his post on X.

The White House spokesperson did not comment on the reasons for the post's initial publication and subsequent removal.

Iran calls on UN to 'explicitly condemn aggression' by Israel, US

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called on the U.N. on Tuesday to "explicitly condemn the aggression" by Israel and the United States, the Tasnim and Mehr news agencies reported.

During a telephone conversation with U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres, Araghchi "emphasized the high expectations of the Iranian government and people" that the international organization "adopt a firmer and more responsible position by explicitly condemning" the Israeli-American attack, according to the two media outlets.

Approximately 140 U.S. service members have been injured since the start of the Iran nuclear deal, the Pentagon announced Tuesday.

"The vast majority of these injuries were minor, and 108 have already returned to duty," Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said in a statement. "Eight service members are still considered critically injured and are receiving the best possible medical care," he added.

Lebanon: 100,000 meals to be distributed daily to displaced persons starting tomorrow

Social Development Minister Haneen Sayyed announced new aid measures for families affected by the bombings from the Grand Serail. “Starting tomorrow, 100,000 warm meals will be distributed daily in shelters, and a one-time payment of $100 will be given to 6,000 families with children with disabilities aged 0 to 19,” she stated.

This aid will initially target families living in the hardest-hit areas through a program established with UNICEF.

“The number of beneficiaries will be gradually expanded depending on how the situation evolves and the availability of funding. Furthermore, payments to the 34,000 primary beneficiaries of the program will begin tomorrow, instead of next week, to alleviate the additional expenses incurred by families due to the crisis,” the minister added.

The head of the Jwayya Municipal Council in the Sour district, Fawzi Fawaz, and a member of the municipal council, Abbas Baalbaki, were among the victims of the airstrike on the town earlier this evening, reports our correspondent.

A British ship in the Mediterranean to protect Cyprus

The warship HMS Dragon left the English port of Portsmouth on Tuesday, bound for the eastern Mediterranean, to protect Cyprus and its British bases from Iranian attacks, the Defense Ministry announced.

Pakistan condemns 'Israeli military aggression against Lebanon'

Pakistani authorities have condemned in the strongest terms “the continued Israeli military aggression against Lebanon, which has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and the displacement of nearly half a million people,” according to a statement from the Pakistani Foreign Ministry issued by the country’s embassy in Beirut.

The Ministry also stated that “Israeli actions, which violate international law, undermine the Lebanese government’s efforts to ensure peace and stability in the country and risk exacerbating the ongoing security and humanitarian crises in the region.”

It urged “the international community to take urgent measures to end Israeli military aggression, indiscriminate attacks against civilians and continued violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and calls on Israel to withdraw immediately, completely, and unconditionally from all occupied Lebanese territories.”

Pakistan expressed its solidarity with the Lebanese people and pledged its support for all efforts to ensure lasting peace in Lebanon and the region.

Ireland allocates $3M in humanitarian aid to displaced Lebanese

Lebanese Foreign Minister Joe Rajji was informed by the Irish Ambassador to Lebanon and Egypt, Aiden O’Hara, that Ireland had released $3 million in humanitarian aid for displaced people who have fled Israeli attacks and bombings since the start of the war, which began ten days ago between Israel and Hezbollah.

Rajji expressed “Lebanon’s gratitude to Ireland and the Irish people for their generosity” and reaffirmed “the Lebanese government’s commitment to finding ways to end the Israeli escalation.”

The Lebanese minister was also informed by his Finnish counterpart, Elina Valtonen, with whom he spoke, of “her country’s support and solidarity with Lebanon and its people in these difficult circumstances.”

In a separate interview, Swedish Foreign Minister Dag Hartelius praised "the measures taken by the government in this regard," emphasizing "the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon, as well as Sweden's support for Lebanon and its people."

Rajji reiterated "Lebanon's rejection of Iranian interference in its affairs, the fact that Tehran continues to exploit it, and its contribution to plunging Lebanon into a war it did not choose."

At least 570 killed, 759,300 displaced in Lebanon since start of Israel's war on Lebanon

In its latest updated report on the human cost of the war, the Health Ministry recorded a total of 570 killed in Israeli attacks and airstrikes in Lebanon as of Tuesday at 5 p.m., an increase of 81 additional killed in the past 24 hours. These attacks have also injured 1,444, 131 more than in the previous count.

Finally, 753,300 people have been displaced and registered with the online registry established by the authorities in the early days of the war. Some 122,600 are in collective shelters, representing 31,500 families housed in the 4,580 shelters made available.

The report also lists 1,295 Israeli attacks since the beginning of the war.

Update on Hezbollah's attacks against Israel this afternoon

Hezbollah said it targeted Israeli soldiers gathered east of Khiam prison with a barrage of rockets at 3 p.m., as well as others in the Wadi al-Assafir valley, south of Khiam, and another gathering at the recently established Hamames site, also south of Khiam. Also at 3 p.m., the party attacked Metula and Misgav Am with a barrage of rockets.

The Arabic-language spokesperson for the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, issued an evacuation order for residents of several villages in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon, in anticipation of attacks or bombings against "Hezbollah elements."

The Egyptian president assured Lebanon of his support for "its government, people, and army" and announced the dispatch of humanitarian aid to assist displaced people forced to flee their homes due to the Israeli attacks.

German chancellor says 'shares Trump's hope' that 'this war will end quickly'

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he sees "no joint plan" from the United States and Israel to "end" the war triggered by their strikes against Iran "quickly and convincingly."

The leader of Europe's largest economy also said he "shares the hope of U.S. President Donald Trump "that this war will end quickly," coupled with the hope for a "relatively rapid return to normal in the oil and energy markets."

On Monday, Trump made contradictory statements about the war in Iran, suggesting that it would end "soon" — which instantly sent oil prices plummeting — while simultaneously asserting that the offensive would continue.

He told CBS that the conflict was "well ahead" of the four- to five-week timeline he had previously mentioned. But he also told Republican lawmakers that the United States would "not stop until the enemy is totally and definitively defeated."

EU delivers 45 tons of emergency aid for displaced people in Lebanon

“As hostilities continue to escalate across Lebanon and population displacement increases, the European Union, through its support for UNICEF, has delivered 45 tons of emergency supplies to assist families affected by the conflict,” the European Union Delegation to Lebanon stated on its website. These supplies were handed over to the Social Development Ministry “to address urgent humanitarian needs.”

The shipment includes first-aid kits, blankets, winter clothing, plastic mats, water tanks, adolescent kits, early childhood development kits, recreational kits and other essential emergency items “intended to support displaced children and families.”

This aid will be distributed in shelters.

'We do not want an endless war': Israeli foreign minister

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said Tuesday that Israel does not want an endless war with Iran and that it would consult with the United States to decide when to end the conflict, which has lasted for 11 days, Reuters reports.

“We will consult with our American allies when we deem the time right. We do not want an endless war,” Saar told reporters in Jerusalem, without specifying when the conflict might end. Saar also said that U.S. President Donald Trump had told him that the war “will not end this week.”

On Monday, Saar met in Jerusalem with the U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, to whom he stated that the deployment of Israeli troops beyond the Lebanese border is necessary to "prevent ground incursions by Hezbollah forces and rocket fire against Israeli civilians and settlements," according to reports in the Israeli press.

"Hezbollah has launched an attack against us, and no actor in the international community is trying to stop it, except for us," Saar asserted, according to his office. He also stated that weakening Hezbollah was in the "common interest" of both Israel and Lebanon. He emphasized that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was an "obstacle" to Israeli military operations against Hezbollah.

Aoun-Sharaa call on need to better control the Lebanese-Syrian border

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa have agreed to better control their shared border, according to the Lebanese presidency.

This comes as Damascus accused Hezbollah last night of firing artillery shells at Syrian soldiers near Sarghaya.

According to the Baabda Presidential Palace, Aoun received a call from his Syrian counterpart during which the two leaders agreed on the "need to control the borders and prevent any security breaches."

Precautionary evacuation in Jounieh following threat

Authorities in Jounieh, Kesrouan, evacuated the town’s outskirts after an unidentified threat was received by a worker in a nearby building.

According to Fady Fayad, the municipality’s communications officer, the worker received a recorded message from a foreign number instructing evacuation to a minimum distance of 300 meters, giving only 10 minutes before a potential strike.

The municipal police acted immediately, clearing the area as a precaution.

France calls on Hezbollah to disarm, warns Israel against major operation

France has expressed “deep concern” over the escalating violence in Lebanon ahead of an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

In a statement from the French Europe and Foreign Affairs Ministry (the Quai d'Orsay), Paris called on Hezbollah to “hand over its weapons” and end its operations, condemning what it described as the group’s “irresponsible choice” to join Iranian attacks against Israel since March 1.

France also urged Israel to refrain from any large-scale or ground intervention in Lebanon, stressing that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon must be respected.

Paris reiterated its full support for the Lebanese authorities, welcoming their March 2 decision to ban Hezbollah’s military and security activities. France had also been due to host an international conference on March 5 to support the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Southern Lebanon: 2 killed in Israeli drone strike on Qleileh

Two people were killed after an Israeli drone strike targeted a car in the town of Qleileh in the Sour district, according to local reports. The wounded were taken to hospital. At the same time, an airstrike hit the village of Taybeh in the Marjayoun district.

Israeli artillery also shelled Taybeh and Rebb al Thalatine (Marjayoun) after crossing the border from Aidaisseh.

Earlier, drone strikes targeted the town of Bint Jbeil, the district’s administrative center, as well as the villages of Kabrikha (Marjayoun) and Kfar Roummane (Nabatieh).

Israeli army advances on multiple fronts, clashes in Khiam

The Israeli army attempted advances on multiple fronts in southern Lebanon overnight following the deployment of a new “combat unit” from the 36th Division. Troop movements were reported from Reb Thalathine toward Taybeh (Marjayoun) and via Adaisseh from the border.

Israeli vehicles and tanks moved along several axes, including Hounin to Houla and Markaba (Marjayoun), and from Maroun al-Ras to al-Khanouq in Aitaroun (Bint Jbeil).

Helicopters fired machine guns toward villages, and rockets were launched toward Ramieh, Qaouzah, and Salhani (Bint Jbeil). Explosions were heard along the border.

By around 2 a.m., Israeli advances were reported from Yaroun and Maroun al-Ras (Bint Jbeil), Beit Lif toward Aita al-Shaab and Qaouzah (Bint Jbeil), Markaba and Houla toward Taybeh (Marjayoun), and Kfar Kila and Khiam (Marjayoun).

Intense clashes occurred in Khiam between Hezbollah fighters and the Israeli army, with machine gun and rocket fire reported. Two Israeli Merkava tanks were reportedly targeted. Later, Israeli aircraft bombed Khiam, and a helicopter was seen evacuating wounded near Tallet al-Hamames, south of Khiam.
