U.S. President Donald Trump declared that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is dead. "Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead," he wrote on Truth Social, without specifying the source of this information. "He was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do," he wrote.
He added that he heard many members of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the army and other Iranian security and police forces no longer want to fight and are seeking immunity from the United States. According to him, this is "This is the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country." However, "The heavy and pinpoint bombing, however, will continue, uninterrupted throughout the week or, as long as necessary to achieve our objective of PEACE THROUGHOUT THE MIDDLE EAST AND, INDEED, THE WORLD!" Trump concluded.
After Donald Trump’s announcement regarding Khamenei’s death, Iranians from several neighborhoods in Tehran took to the streets to celebrate the news, according to residents’ accounts to Reuters.
With the death of the Supreme Leader, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been consigned to "the dustbin of history," rejoiced the son of the late shah, Reza Pahlavi. "With his death, the Islamic Republic has effectively ended and will soon be consigned to the dustbin of history," Reza Pahlavi wrote on X.
Earlier, a senior Israeli official had already announced the death of Ali Khamenei and emphasized that his body "has been found." According to Israeli television channels, "a photo of the body" was shown to Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
No official confirmation has yet been made by Iran regarding the fate of the Supreme Leader. However, a source close to Khamenei’s office, quoted by Iranian state media, said they could "confidently state that the Supreme Leader is firmly in charge of the situation on the ground," according to Reuters, while his office described a "psychological war" waged by Iran’s enemies.
