A tanker carrying a cargo of diesel fuel destined for Électricité du Liban (EDL), to replace the cargo that was rejected a week ago after being deemed non-compliant, is due to arrive in Lebanese territorial waters on Tuesday, according to a source at the Ministry of Energy and Water. Another source at EDL management also confirmed the information.

The fuel — 27,000 tons of diesel that can be used by certain production units at the Deir Ammar (North Lebanon) and Zahrani (South Lebanon) power plants — is reportedly being transported by a tanker other than the Mount McKinney, which was rejected by the ministry on Dec. 29.

According to the website marinetraffic.com, the Mount McKinney was sailing off the coast of Malta on Tuesday morning.

The new fuel shipment was provided at its own expense by the importer, the U.S. company Novum Energy Trading, which had been selected by the ministry through a tender process. According to the terms of the contract unveiled a week ago by the Ministry of Energy, the company had two weeks to complete the replacement.

Once the ship arrives, new tests will be carried out to verify that the new fuel shipment complies with the technical criteria defined in advance.
