Israel bombs south Gaza

Since the cease-fire came into effect, Israeli attacks have killed at least 414 Palestinians and wounded 1,145 in daily violations of the truce, despite the cease-fire agreement brokered by the United States on Oct. 10.

According to Hani Mahmoud, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Gaza City, “It was only in the last few minutes that the drone buzzing subsided. They were active all night and all day yesterday, with continuous explosions clearly audible from here.”

Intense artillery bombardment and helicopter fire also resumed in the southern part of the besieged enclave, north and east of the cities of Rafah and Khan Younis.

On Sunday, Israel launched new attacks in areas of Gaza that are not under its direct military control. At least three Palestinians were killed in separate airstrikes in Khan Younis, according to medical sources.

A five-story building belonging to the al-Shana family in the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza collapsed after being bombed by Israel in late 2023. Civil Defense teams are searching for people missing under the rubble. The Wafa news agency reported that at least five people were injured.

Israel extends occupation of Gaza beyond 'yellow line' in north: Al Jazeera.

The Israeli army spent the last 24 hours extending the so-called "yellow line" in eastern Gaza, particularly in the neighborhoods of Tuffah, Shuja'iyya, and Zeitoun east of Gaza City, according to Al Jazeera's teams on the ground, squeezing Palestinians into ever-shrinking areas of the enclave.

The Israeli army's operations on Monday also brought it closer to the strategic Salaheddine Street, forcing displaced families who had been sheltering there to flee as they face increasing threats, while the Israeli war on Gaza shows no signs of abating.

According to Hani Mahmoud, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Gaza City, "The ongoing Israeli ground attacks and the expansion of the 'yellow line' are aimed at further encroaching on territory throughout the eastern part of the city, drastically reducing the space where people can find refuge."

"Everyone is crammed in here. The population has not only doubled, but tripled in many neighborhoods, since no one can return to their original neighborhoods — Zeitoun, Shuja'iyya, and Tuffah, in particular."

Israel now physically occupies more than 50 percent of the Gaza Strip.

Israel maintains that foreign journalists cannot enter Gaza

Israel maintains that the cease-fire in Gaza does not justify allowing foreign journalists to enter the country, according to a government document submitted to the Supreme Court, which will rule on the matter at a later date.

"Despite a change in the factual situation on the ground, the entry of journalists [both foreign and local] into the Gaza Strip without an escort ... should not be permitted," the prosecutor, representing the government, stated in the document submitted to the court and obtained by AFP on Monday.

"This is due to security concerns, based on the position of the military authorities, who believe that a security risk still exists," he added, emphasizing "the persistence of threats and incidents."

The Foreign Press Association in Jerusalem (FPA), which represents international media in Israel and the Palestinian Territories and has hundreds of members, had asked the Israeli courts in 2024 to allow immediate access to Gaza.

Trump warns Iran will be hit 'very hard' if protesters are killed, AFP reports

As clashes erupted between protesters and security forces in Iran this weekend, U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday again threatened to "strike" the Islamic Republic if there are more civilian deaths, following a week of protests that began with economic demands.

The movement, initially linked to the cost of living, started on Dec. 28 in Tehran, where shopkeepers closed their businesses to protest hyperinflation and the economic crisis, and has since broadened to include political demands.

The protests have affected some 40 cities to varying degrees, mostly small and medium-sized ones, primarily in the west of the country.

At least 12 people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, according to a tally based on official reports.

"We are watching this very closely." "If they start killing people as they have in the past, I think they will be hit very hard by the United States," warned Trump on Sunday aboard Air Force One.
