More than 500 children of employees from the General Directorate of the Presidency and the Presidential Guard Brigade gathered Sunday at the Presidential Palace to receive Christmas and New Year’s gifts from President Joseph Aoun and first lady Neemat Aoun, the state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.
The event featured a musical performance by Lebanese artist Ghinwa and her band, entertaining the children before gifts were handed out by a costumed Santa Claus, the NNA said.
Despite Lebanon’s ongoing economic crisis and the devastation of last year’s war between Hezbollah and Israel, which killed thousands, the Christmas spirit has taken hold across the country. This year, more than 45 Christmas festivals and markets are being held nationwide.
