Washington revives the gas agreement between Israel and Egypt
Announced in August and later suspended, the deal signed by the two neighboring countries underscores the transactional approach of the Trump administration in the Middle East.

On Wednesday, Israel approved a contract for $35 billion in gas exports to Egypt, a deal Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed as the largest in his country’s history.The deal was first announced in early August 2025, but Israel suspended it when Egypt deployed 40,000 troops in the Sinai, which Israel claimed was a violation of the 1979 Camp David treaty.U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has since worked to bring the two countries closer, and is trying to arrange a meeting between Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, according to Axios.
