Israeli airstrikes continued across the Gaza Strip on Saturday, killing 202 Palestinians since dawn, according to hospital sources cited by Al Jazeera, as the death toll continues to raise. Among the dead were 11 aid workers and three people killed in an attack on the Zeitoun neighborhood in southeastern Gaza City.
Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, more than 55,000 people have been killed in Israeli bombings, according to the local health ministry. Approximately 65 percent of the victims are reported to be children, women, or the elderly. However, the actual death toll is believed to be significantly higher, as many bodies remain buried under the rubble.
In the past 48 hours alone, Israeli strikes have killed 202 people and wounded 1,037 others, the Gaza Health Ministry said Saturday. Health officials also reported that at least 450 Palestinians have been killed near aid distribution sites, with over 3,466 wounded.
Since the end of the cease-fire in March, the death toll has climbed to 5,599, with 19,097 people wounded. Since the start of the war, the total number of people killed in Gaza has reached 55,908, with 131,138 injured. The true toll is likely far higher, as thousands of victims remain trapped under collapsed buildings.
The Gaza Strip has been ravaged by more than 20 months of war between Israel and Hamas, with conditions on the ground worsening steadily. The conflict was sparked by a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which killed 1,219 people, according to an AFP tally based on official figures. That number includes hostages who died or were killed in captivity after being abducted during the assault.
