The Israeli army announced Wednesday that it had “destroyed a Hezbollah underground headquarters in southern Lebanon,” according to a statement by its Arabic-speaking spokesperson, Avichay Adraee.

“During an operation carried out by the engineering corps of the 188th Brigade, a tunnel spanning several dozen meters was discovered. This tunnel led to a Hezbollah headquarters used for planning terrorist operations and launching rockets toward villages and towns in the western Galilee over the past year,” said Adraee.

The spokesperson added that “military equipment, surveillance devices, and other materials used by Hezbollah to coordinate its terrorist activities in the area were found” in the headquarters. “Nearby, several weapon depots were also discovered, one of which was located in a mosque. These depots contained hundreds of explosives, rifles, grenades, and various other military equipment,” he noted.

The headquarters, along with the tunnel leading to it, were destroyed, and “all military equipment discovered was seized,” he said, emphasizing that “the forces of the 188th Brigade are continuing their mission to eliminate threats in southern Lebanon in accordance with agreements between Israel and Lebanon while respecting the cease-fire conditions.”

The cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, which went into effect on Nov. 27, ended more than 13 months of fighting and two months of heightened conflict across Lebanon. It includes provisions for implementing U.N. Resolution 1701, halting Hezbollah and other armed groups' offensives against Israel, ceasing Israeli military actions in Lebanon, dismantling illegal weapons production infrastructure, confiscating unauthorized weapons, deploying Lebanese armed forces along the southern border, Israel’s phased withdrawal from southern Lebanon within 60 days, and Hezbollah’s pullback to areas north of the Litani River, 20 kilometers from the border.
