In a recent letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel's security cabinet, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant expressed concerns that Israel is conducting its military operations without a clear direction, reported Haaretz. He emphasized the need for updated war objectives just before an Israeli strike on Iran, stating, "The current situation in which we operate harms the management of the campaign and the cabinet's decisions. Significant developments in the war, primarily the exchanges of direct blows between Israel and Iran, increase the need for a discussion and an update of the war objectives..."
Gallant's letter, which was also addressed to key security officials, including Shin Bet director Ronen Bar, Mossad chief David Barnea, and IDF Chief of Staff Herzl Halevi, outlined four new war objectives. For Gaza, he proposed "establishing a reality without a military threat, preventing the enhancement of terror capabilities, securing the return of all hostages, and promoting an alternative to Hamas rule." For the West Bank, he advocates for "preventing violent outbreaks by thwarting terrorism."
He suggested that the goal for Lebanon should be "creating a security situation that allows residents of the north [of Israel] to return to their homes as soon as possible."
For Iran, the objective is "deterrence and keeping Iran out of the war."
