BEIRUT — In a dramatic reversal of refugee flows, thousands of Lebanese and Syrian families are now seeking sanctuary in Syria as violence escalates in Lebanon. As of Oct. 2, the total number people forced to flee Israeli bombardment in Lebanon was around 1,200,000, according to a report by the coordinator of the governmental emergency committee, caretaker Environment Minister Nasser Yassin. Most of the displaced had resettled in homes they owned in other areas, staying with their families or in hotels and rented houses, Yassin said. Others flew out of the country or entered Syria. Between Sept. 23 and 30, with the sudden and dramatic intensification of Israeli bombardments, General Security recorded the passage of 234,023 Syrians and 76,269 Lebanese into Syrian territory.
