AKKAR — Unidentified assailants beat up a Lebanese soldier at a traffic circle in Bebnine-Aabdeh, Akkar, according to L'Orient-Le Jour's correspondent. This information was confirmed to L'Orient-Le Jour by a source in the Lebanese Army.

The soldier in question "was beaten with a stick and a hand" at the traffic circle at the southern entrance to the Akkar governorate. Insults were exchanged before the soldier was beaten, although the reasons for the dispute are not known. The victim was transferred to a hospital in Minieh.

Later in the afternoon, an army patrol searched the homes of several suspects and, according to L'Orient-Le Jour's correspondent, two suspects were arrested and their case transferred to the prosecution. Two other suspects are currently being pursued.

Furthermore, in a press release published in the evening, the army specified that it had arrested an individual “in military clothing” involved in the incident.
