BEIRUT — A person in the village of Azzounieh (Aley) was killed on Tuesday during a theft, according to local media outlets.

According to local newspaper al-Modon, the 60-year-old man was killed after being "strangled and tortured."

Other local media outlets accused Syrian workers of robbing and killing the victim. However, the mukhtar of the village, Fawzi Imad, denied to al-Modon these accusations, saying that "the perpetrator of the crime is still unknown, and everyone is waiting for the results of the investigations."

According to local media outlets, Azzounieh is currently in a state of tension, as residents of the village and neighboring villages gathered to "demand that the circumstances of the crime be uncovered as soon as possible."

A security source was not immediately available for comment on the incident.

Around a week ago, the Lebanese Forces' Jbeil district office head Pascal Sleiman was murdered by a Syrian carjacking mafia, according to the Lebanese army. Following this incident, some supporters of the party directed their anger at Syrian refugees living in Lebanon, committing several acts of aggression and violence against them.
