WASHINGTON — US airstrikes in Syria overnight hit a weapons storage facility and an ammunition storage facility used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and militias it backs, senior US officials said, saying it was unclear if Iranian nationals were killed.
The strikes took place at roughly 4:30 a.m. on Friday in Syria (0130 GMT) near Abu Kamal, a Syrian town on the border with Iraq, and were carried out by two F-16 fighter jets using precision munitions, one of the officials said.
"Iran-backed attacks against US forces are unacceptable and must cease. We are prepared to take further measures to protect our people if necessary," a second official official said.
