BEIRUT — Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who is on an official visit to Beirut since Wednesday, met with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and discussed the latest Chinese-mediated Saudi-Iranian deal and its effect on the region, Hezbollah's press office said Friday, without specifying when the meeting happened.

On April 6, Amir-Abdollahian and his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan, held talks in Beijing on restoring relations. However, the consequences of this deal for Lebanon are still not clear.

In a statement, Hezbollah said that the meeting took place in the presence of the Iranian ambassador in Lebanon Mojtaba Amani and also discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and Palestine.

Amir-Abdollahian has been on a three-day visit to Lebanon since Wednesday. On Thursday he said encouraged all Lebanese parties to "speed up" negotiations to reach an agreement on electing a new president, adding that Tehran is ready to support "any agreement" that can end the now six-month vacuum.

On Thursday, the Iranian foreign minister met with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. He is scheduled to appear in a press conference on Friday at 4 p.m. This is Amir-Abdollahian's second visit to Beirut in three months, after a visit in mid-January.
