BEIRUT —Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced on Friday that they arrested a young Lebanese man — A.K., aged 27— for complicity in stealing a car, after drugging the car's owner.

In a statement, the ISF said the man was aiding a Syrian minor and that both of them wanted to drive the vehicle to Syria.

A complaint was filed by the victim at the police station of Bourj Brajneh, a neighborhood in the southern suburbs of Beirut. The victim was allegedly drugged and his Chevrolet was stolen, along with a sum of money.

The suspect was arrested following a search by the ISF in the locality of Fanar (Metn). He was already the subject of an arrest warrant for a different crime.

According to the ISF, A.K. confessed to the crime and the vehicle was returned to its owner. The investigation is still ongoing for any additional suspects.

The security situation in Lebanon, which is struggling with an unprecedented economic crisis, has significantly deteriorated since 2019.
