BEKAA VALLEY, Lebanon — A man killed his brother on Monday in the village of Chouaghir in Hermel, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent in the area.
An argument had broken out between two brothers from the Hajj Hassan family when the younger brother used a gun and fired twice in the direction of the elder brother, killing him on the spot, our correspondent reported.
According to a security source, the dispute between the two brothers was over the ownership of a piece of land.
Amid a now yearslong economic crisis, the security situation in Lebanon has deteriorated significantly. The army is struggling to contain and prevent settling of scores, especially in the Bekaa where rival tribes and clans, heavily armed, often hold significant sway.
