BEIRUT — The Lebanese Forces, Progressive Socialist Party and National Liberal Party held a ceremony marking the launch of their joint electoral list, dubbed “Partnership and Will,” in the Mount Lebanon IV electoral district, an area where PSP leader Walid Joumblatt has significant influence.

Here’s what we know:

    • “Our battle is for the justice and dignity that the [so-called] ‘we were prevented from acting’ supporters [alluding to the Free Patriotic Movement] have stolen,” Teymour Joumblatt, son of PSP head Walid Joumblatt, said during a press conference in Beiteddine.

    • Teymour Joumblatt, who represents the Chouf area in Parliament and is a candidate on the electoral list, voiced his willingness to pursue “the battle to stabilize the Arabness of Lebanon and its relations with Arab countries” and “the battle for a free and independent Arab decision without interior or exterior domination.”

    • Lebanese Forces MP Georges Adwan, another incumbent candidate on the list, said the “situation which the country is heading toward is the result of, one one hand, the control exercised by a party on the state and its decisions; and on the other hand, a corrupt political class … leading us to hell,” also implicitly referencing the FPM.

    • Adwan added that Lebanon is faced with two choices, “a sovereign state that imposes its presence, or a state whose decisions are dictated by the Moumanaa [obstruction] axis, which have nothing to do with the country,” in reference to Hezbollah, an FPM ally.

    • The Mount Lebanon IV electoral district, where Walid Joumblatt retains significant influence, has the most parliamentary seats, thirteen, comprising the Chouf and Aley cazas. The seats are divided between: five Maronite ones, one Greek-Orthodox, one Greek-Catholic, four Druze seats and two Sunni seats.
