Syria's judiciary on Thursday sentenced a member of the government forces to 20 years in prison and two supporters of the ousted regime to death or life imprisonment, in the first verdicts in the trial over the 2025 massacres of Alawites along Syria’s coast.
The trial of 14 people accused of involvement in the massacres, which left hundreds dead — seven members of the government forces and seven supporters of former President Bashar al-Assad — opened in Aleppo in Nov. 2025.
