BEIRUT — Lebanon's Civil Defense said Monday afternoon that its crews had brought under control the major fire that broke out earlier in the day at a factory in the Mkalles-Mansourieh area, preventing the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.
According to information gathered at the scene by L'Orient Today's photographer Mohammad Yassine, the facility appears to be a metal factory located near several electric generators. Thick plumes of smoke were visible from several kilometers away.

In a statement, Civil Defense said firefighters are continuing cooling operations to ensure the fire does not reignite and to secure the site.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and no official information has been released on the extent of the damage.
