BEIRUT — The Israeli army struck a clinic on Monday in the town of Srifa (Sour district), which is affiliated with the Health Ministry and supervised by the city’s municipal government, according to our correspondent in south Lebanon.

The center was used by young volunteers from Srifa who responded to emergencies and carried out rescue operations during Israeli attacks. The rescue workers had received authorization from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to operate in the area, our correspondent said.

The municipality of Srifa condemned “in the strongest terms the brutal aggression that targeted the town’s clinic, supported by the Lebanese Ministry of Health, and which led to the death and injury of several civilian rescuers while they were carrying out their humanitarian and national duty,” according to a statement relayed by our correspondent in southern Lebanon.

The municipality added that the killed rescuer was named Ali Jaafar Najdi and worked for the “Youth of Srifa” association, praising his qualities, commitment, and sense of sacrifice “in times of peace as in times of war.”

“With pride and honor, the municipality of Sarafand mourns its martyr,” it added, saying that Israeli attacks “will not deter” its residents.

The Israeli strike killed one rescue worker and wounded another, according to a revised toll. A total of five people were injured in the attack. Dozens of rescue workers have been killed in Israeli strikes since the war began on March 2.
